TANGSHAN RAILWAY VEHICLE CO., LTD. traces its origins to 1881 and is recognized as China’s first railway equipment manufacturing enterprise. Across a development history spanning three centuries, the company has played a landmark role in the nation’s rail industry—delivering a series of pioneering products, from early locomotives and passenger trains to freight wagons, inspection trains, special vehicles, and high-class official trains.
Building on that legacy, the company has continued to advance modern rolling stock technologies, including double-deck diesel multiple units, tilting trains, low-floor light rail vehicles, and middle-low speed maglev trains. It has produced batches of new and high-speed railway carriages to support national railway speed-up programs and has manufactured over 10,000 passenger trains in multiple varieties.
In high-speed rail, the company achieved major breakthroughs with full proprietary intellectual property rights, including the “Harmony” CRH3 EMU designed for 350 km/h operation and the CRH380BL EMU with a highest hourly speed of 380 km/h. During service testing on the Beijing–Shanghai line on 9 January 2011, the CRH380BL recorded a 487.3 km/h railway test speed.
The company operates with strong R&D and engineering foundations, including a national technology center and a national enterprise engineering laboratory, and is recognized as an international scientific and technological cooperation base by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
