State Grid Corporation of China (SG) is a state-approved, special large-sized enterprise formed on the basis of multiple enterprises and institutions formerly owned by State Power Corporation of China. Approved by the State Council, the corporation operates power transmission, transformation, distribution, and other power-grid assets, providing the backbone for electricity delivery and grid operation.
SG manages state-owned assets in accordance with national laws and undertakes a wide scope of grid-related business, including electricity purchasing and sales, power dispatching, and power trading among grids within its service area. The corporation also invests in, constructs, operates, and manages trans-regional transmission and transformation projects, supporting large-scale interconnection and grid development.
In addition, SG carries out approved domestic and overseas investment and financing activities, and engages in foreign trade, international cooperation, overseas project contracting, and export of labor services. The corporation also supports scientific research, technical development, dispatching and communication, and consulting services related to power supply business.

Operates as a state-holding, authorized investment corporation under the direct administration and management of the Central Government, with the president serving as the legal person responsible for major activities.
